Roadmap

The Exponential Foundation and 7x roadmap for 2026/Q4 to 2027/Q2.

Exponential has grown from one content management kernel into a family of projects: the Exponential 6 kernel, the Exponential Velocity application server, the Exponential Platform distributions, more than a hundred maintained extensions, the CJW packages, 155 administration languages and a documentation set that ships inside the product. This page is the overview. Every project family has its own detailed page with its deliverables, their status and where you can help.

The Exponential Foundation and 7x roadmap

Period: 2026/Q4 to 2027/Q2. Versions are the current releases on GitHub and Packagist as of 29 October 2026. PHP versions are given as ranges per product.

Every deliverable carries one of four labels:

  • Delivered: released and available now. Items marked Delivered (development branch) are finished and can be installed now from the development version; they ship with the next release. Delivered items stay on the roadmap as a record of progress.
  • In progress: being built now. Much of it is already in the development branch.
  • Next: planned for this period, after the work in progress.
  • Considering: being discussed, not committed. Your feedback decides.

Project families

Exponential 6.0.x, the kernel

Exponential 6.0.14 is the current stable release. Exponential 6.0.15 is the release target for 2026/Q4: Twig 3 and Smarty 5 template engines next to tpl, with converters in every direction; passkeys, two-factor sign-in and management of sign-in sessions; one-command upgrades with rollback; the admin4 design, the in-admin help system, bookmarks, the audit log and 155 administration languages. Next come the 6.0.16+ maintenance releases, a GraphQL API and expwt, the new site-side management sidebar. Supported: PHP 8.0 to 8.5. Usable without support: PHP 7.4 (Exponential 6.0.15 and later).

Exponential Velocity

Exponential Velocity is a persistent PHP application server based on the Qbix engine. It has had 54 releases this year. The current release is 0.0.4.57, published as Composer package, deb and rpm packages, Docker images and static binaries. Next: smarter deploys, packaging for production and a 1.0 line.

Exponential Platform distributions

Exponential Platform Legacy (2.5, 3.3, 4.6 and 5.0 lines), Exponential Platform Nexus, Exponential Platform DXP 4.6 and 5.x, Exponential Platform 3.x and Exponential Basic. The 2026 work: every distribution installs with Composer security blocking on, from PHP 7.4 to 8.5, with a tested install matrix for each one.

Extensions and packages

More than a hundred maintained extensions, nearly all published on Packagist. This year brought Exponential Layouts (the Netgen Layouts port), Exponential Intelligence and the job queue, the jQuery 4 line of ezjscore, two-factor authentication, the TipTap editor, the package server and the PHP-version floor metapackages.

CJW packages for Exponential

Maintained together with CJW Network: cjw_newsletter, the CJW multisite site package with cjw_themes_jumper, the expimageeditor image editor, CJW Exponential Platform Nexus and the CJW demo site.

Languages and localization

155 administration languages, right-to-left included, with a coverage map and fallback chains for each language's countries. The remaining territories are next. Contributions are welcome.

Documentation and help

The in-admin help system (exphelp) with help maintained as content, the English and German documentation set, and the doc.exponential.earth portal.

Help wanted

Every family page ends with a list of help wanted. You can help in these ways:

Composer packages

Most Exponential extensions now carry a composer.json and are published on Packagist under se7enxweb. An extension and its -ezpackage repository are released together, and the PHP-version floor metapackages pick the dependency versions that work on each PHP version. Some older extensions in the se7enxweb GitHub organization are still not packaged.

We are looking for volunteers to add composer.json files to the remaining extensions, to test installations of extensions with Composer security blocking on, and to report packages that do not install on the newest PHP release.

Exponential site installation packages

The package server at exponential.packages.exponential.earth serves the site installation packages and extension packages to the setup wizard and to Setup > Packages. Site packages include 7x MultiSite and 7x Simple, the CJW MultiSite package and the media theme packages. They configure the siteaccesses, install a content tree and the extensions it needs, and complete a new installation in the setup wizard. With Exponential 6.0.15, packages from every earlier generation import, and a site package keeps newer extensions that are already installed.

We want community site packages. If you have a site package for a solution others could install with a few clicks, we will help you publish it on the package server. Write to community at exponential dot earth.

Community Roadmap

The interactive community roadmap has been restored. Sign in, add a feature request with as much detail as you can, and discuss and vote on the requests of others. It holds features that users want, that developers support and that the Exponential Foundation and 7x approve for Exponential. It also keeps the feature requests collected in earlier eras of the project. An accepted request moves onto this roadmap with a status label. Read how it works in the community roadmap description and FAQ.

Partners

The Exponential Foundation and 7x run a partner program for companies that build, host and support Exponential sites. It has seven levels, from Student and Starter partners to Gold and Platinum partners. Partners receive project referrals and commissions, get listed and can have their own page, and are invited to the partner meetings. Certified partners may use the "Exponential Certified" logo. Partners help the ecosystem grow and help decide the direction of this roadmap. Read about the partner program, its benefits and the hosting partners, then apply. The 7x partner program covers the services and products of 7x.

Sponsorship

Sponsoring funds the work on this roadmap: support for each new PHP release, security fixes backported into the maintained library forks, the install matrices that prove each distribution, the documentation and the translations. See who sponsors the project, make a donation, or sponsor through GitHub Sponsors.

Made with love

We hope you like having one place to follow the plans of the Exponential Foundation and 7x. Exponential is made with love. Be well to each other!
