Exponential Platform distributions roadmap

The Exponential Platform distributions combine the Symfony-based Platform with the Exponential 6 kernel, Netgen Layouts and the media site, in the combinations that projects need. Each distribution is a Composer project with its own release lines. This page lists the current release of each line, the PHP versions it installs on, and what is next. Versions come from the GitHub releases and Packagist as of 29 October 2026. Read more on platform.exponential.earth.

Shared across all distributions

These items apply to every distribution and are listed only here.

  • Delivered: installs with Composer security blocking on, with Composer 2.10 and 2.11. No development version that has a security advisory is installed. Where an upstream release line has ended, a maintained se7enxweb fork carries the backported fixes. Examples are se7enxweb/twig (Twig 3.11.4 with the 2026 fixes, for PHP 7.4), se7enxweb/flysystem 1.1.11, se7enxweb/symfony-mime 5.4.55, se7enxweb/graphql-php (0.13.12 and 14.11.11) and se7enxweb/ezplatform-http-cache 0.9.6. An advisory that does not apply is ignored only with its reason written down.
  • Delivered: install matrix proofs. Every release is verified from a fresh clone with packages from Packagist on each PHP version it supports: composer install, the install steps, the front pages, the administrations, the sign-ins, and no PHP errors or critical log lines.
  • Delivered: the PHP-version floor metapackages exponential-php-floor (1.3.2) and exponential-platform-dxp-php-floor (1.1.0). They select the dependency versions that work on each PHP version.
  • Delivered: SQLite installations that keep every version of content, and demo data that installs on MySQL, MariaDB and SQLite.
  • In progress: Composer security blocking, phase 2. Twig 2.x fixes are backported, so the remaining distributions drop their last blanket audit exceptions.
  • Next: install matrices for the older release lines of Platform Legacy and Nexus as well.
  • Considering: getting-started documentation for developers: YAML configuration, where to find bundles, and the first steps of a project.

Exponential Platform Legacy

Exponential Platform Legacy is the Platform with the Exponential 6 kernel and the legacy administration, from the exponential-platform-legacy repository.

  • Delivered: Platform Legacy 4.6, v4.6.23.8 (29 October 2026). Supported: PHP 8.0 to 8.5. Usable without support: PHP 7.4. On PHP 7.4, Composer now finds a release of every package the line needs. This line uses the se7enxweb Twig fork and Composer security blocking, and its install matrix covers PHP 7.4 to 8.5.
  • Delivered: Platform Legacy 5.0, v5.0.3.6 (25 October 2026). Requires PHP 8.3 or later. On PHP 8.4 and later, composer create-project also adds Netgen Layouts, which needs PHP 8.4. The tag view of the Netgen Admin UI works.
  • Delivered: Platform Legacy 3.3, v3.3.44.12 (25 October 2026). Requires PHP 8.0 or later. This is the pure Platform v3 release without the Netgen suite. The Platform Admin UI builds and works again on every PHP version.
  • Delivered: Platform Legacy 2.5, v2.5.0.10 (25 October 2026). Its composer.json allows PHP 7.1.3 and later. It uses Symfony 3.4 LTS and installs with Composer security blocking on.
  • Delivered: the Platform Legacy starter 1.0.0.1, a ready-to-run installation.
  • Next: the default demo design bundle in every line, and refined default installations.

Exponential Platform Nexus

Exponential Platform Nexus is the Platform, the Exponential 6 kernel, the Netgen media site and Netgen Layouts in one distribution, from the exponential-platform-nexus repository.

  • Delivered: Nexus 2.5, v2.5.0.8 (25 October 2026), the main line on the Platform 2.5 kernel. Its composer.json allows PHP 7.1.3 to 8.5. It installs with Composer 2.10 and 2.11 with security blocking on.
  • Delivered: Nexus 1.3, 1.3.0.11 (25 October 2026), the newest generation on Symfony 7.4. Requires PHP 8.4 or later. Verified on PHP 8.4 and 8.5.
  • Delivered: Nexus 1.2, v1.2.0.5 (25 October 2026), on Platform 4.6 and Symfony 5.4. Requires PHP 8.2 or later. On SQLite, the legacy administration keeps every version.
  • Delivered: Nexus 1.1, v1.1.0.13 (25 October 2026), on Platform 3.3. Requires PHP 8.0 or later. The demo installs on MySQL and MariaDB.
  • Delivered: Nexus 1.0, 1.0.0.11 (6 October 2026), on Platform 2.5 and Symfony 3.4. Its composer.json allows PHP 7.1.3 to 8.5.
  • Delivered: the Nexus starter 1.0.0.0, a ready-to-run installation.
  • Next: more supported Symfony and Platform bundles, and refined default installations.

Exponential Platform DXP

Exponential Platform DXP is the Platform DXP maintained by 7x, as a meta package with a project skeleton per generation.

  • Delivered: Platform DXP 4.6, skeleton v1.0.0.4 (29 October 2026). Supported: PHP 8.0 to 8.5. It also installs on PHP 7.4, using a GraphQL fork with the 2026 fixes backported. The 4.6 line stays on Flysystem 2. This is a historical limit of that generation, which would need Guzzle 7 to move on.
  • Delivered: Platform DXP 5.x, skeleton v2.0.0.3 (29 October 2026), with the meta package exponential-platform-dxp 0.0.0.3. Requires PHP 8.3 or later. composer create-project adds Netgen Layouts on PHP 8.4 and later. On PHP 8.3, the project installs without it.
  • Delivered: the DXP core packages, se7enxweb/core 4.6.25 and 5.1.0.
  • Delivered: the DXP starter 1.0.0.0.
  • Next: Nexus and DXP 5.x side by side: the media site and Netgen Layouts on the DXP 5 generation, with the same install matrix as the other lines.

Exponential Platform 3.x

  • Delivered: Exponential Platform 3.2.9 (28 September 2025). Its composer.json allows PHP 7.3 and PHP 8.1 to 8.4.
  • Next: a 3.2.x release that installs with Composer security blocking on and is tested on PHP 8.5, like the other distributions.
  • Considering: a default demo design bundle.

Exponential Basic

  • Delivered: Exponential Basic 2.4.0.5 (24 October 2026), the fourth release this year. Requires PHP 8.2 or later and runs on PHP 8.4 and 8.5. It replaces its old package name, so a project that still requires the old name installs this package only once. Read more on basic.exponential.earth.
  • Next: refined default installations and more tests.
  • Considering: the advanced shop features, such as encryption of stored customer information.
  • Considering: getting-started documentation: INI configuration and where to find modules.

Ready-to-run starters

  • Delivered: the Exponential starter 1.0.0.6 (22 October 2026), a ready-to-run installation of Exponential 6, and the starters of Platform Legacy, Nexus and DXP listed above.
  • Next: starters for Exponential 6.0.15 and for each new distribution release.

Help wanted

  • Install a distribution on your PHP version with Composer security blocking on, and report every package that Composer refuses, in the issue tracker or the GitHub issues of the distribution.
  • Run a release on the database you use (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL or SQLite) and tell us what differs.
  • Write a getting-started guide for the distribution you know best.
  • Discuss in the Exponential Platform forum and the Exponential Basic forum.
